The
Happiness Institute Philosophy
The Happiness Institute provides the most
effective counseling and education in the areas
of emotional and behavioral wellness. Our philosophy is based on the premise that
beliefs cause emotions and behavior. In other
words, everything we feel and everything we do
is the result of some belief or beliefs that we
hold* . This is a very powerful concept that is
often overlooked in other therapeutic models.
Culturally, we are bombarded from birth with
self-defeating beliefs that subtly rob us of our
autonomy and power. These beliefs are pervasive
throughout our literature, music, television,
films, and even in our language.
We employ many techniques to help our clients
identify these beliefs. Beliefs often feel like
facts to the individual until they are isolated
and examined. Many beliefs are completely
outside a client's awareness. However, once
identified, the client is empowered to decide
whether to keep, change, or discard the belief
entirely.
We have seen this work time and again to help
people change emotions and behaviors immediately
and permanently. Happiness and wellbeing are
inevitable when the underlying dynamics are
understood.
* Exceptions are physiological problems or if
someone is physically forcing you to do
something.
